The Trois‑Rivières Lions, the ECHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens, announced this week that they have re‑signed defenseman Jake Gravelle for the upcoming 2026‑27 season. The move locks in a player who has already proven his ability to anchor the blue line for the club.
A Familiar Face Returns
Gravelle first joined the Lions midway through the previous campaign after a stint with the Guildford Flames of the Elite Ice Hockey League. He quickly adapted to the team’s system, contributing nine points — three goals and six assists — over 26 games while posting a plus‑13 rating.
The 26‑year‑old from Callander, Ontario, brings more than just statistical output; his collegiate experience at the University of Western Ontario, where he amassed 74 points in 84 games, and his junior pedigree in the Ontario Hockey League have equipped him with a blend of offensive flair and defensive responsibility.
During his junior years with the Mississauga Steelheads and Hamilton Bulldogs, Gravelle recorded 38 points in 130 OHL appearances and earned 117 penalty minutes, underscoring his physical style. His individual accolades include being named OUA West Division Defenceman of the Year in 2022‑23 and securing a spot on the OUA West Division Second All‑Star Team for the 2024‑25 season.
General manager expressed confidence that Gravelle’s return will bolster the club’s defensive depth and add veteran presence as the team looks to contend in the next season. His familiarity with the organization’s culture and his proven track record make him a valuable piece as the Lions aim to build on recent progress.
