Jack Goode, the 2025 Telegraph Small‑Schools Football Player of the Year, capped a 12‑1 season with the Calhoun Warriors that will be remembered as much for its record as for the personal challenges it overcame.
The sudden death of his sister Caroline in a UTV accident in June 2025 left the Goode family reeling, but the close‑knit Calhoun community rallied around them, offering both emotional support and practical help that allowed Jack to stay focused on the field.
On the gridiron, Goode proved himself a true two‑way threat, excelling at quarterback, defensive back, and on special teams. His most consequential drives came during the team’s biggest matchups, where his poise under pressure helped the Warriors secure crucial victories.
The Warriors’ campaign was only eclipsed by the historic back‑to‑back state titles of 1992 and 1993, yet the 12‑1 run stood as a testament to resilience. A heartbreaking 14‑13 loss to Brown County in the Class 1A semifinals left a bittersweet aftertaste, but the experience cemented Goode’s reputation as a clutch performer.
Beyond High School
With his senior year now behind him, Goode will continue his athletic and academic career at Illinois College, where he hopes to build on the foundation he created in Hardin. He remains close to his teammates, especially his brother Charlie, who is already making his mark on the Warriors roster.
Off the field, Goode looks forward to sharing stories of his aunt Caroline’s love for football with his future children, ensuring that the values of perseverance and community endure for generations.
