A new soccer park and learning center has opened in Altadena, providing a dedicated space for families still recovering from the Eaton Fire. The facility, located on the grounds of St. Elizabeth Parish School, blends recreation with academic support to address the holistic needs of the community.
Two artificial turf fields and a classroom built from a converted shipping container form the core of the site, allowing year‑round youth programming that mixes sport, mentorship and classroom instruction.
Funding for the project includes a pledge from Fast Retailing, the parent company of UNIQLO, which has committed up to $2 million in financial assistance and clothing donations. The investment forms part of a broader partnership with Street Soccer USA, a relationship that dates back to 2013 when UNIQLO became the nonprofit’s official clothing sponsor.
Voices of Hope
UNIQLO USA chief executive Adachi Fuminori said he hopes the center will become a place where children can play, learn and feel supported, while Street Soccer USA founder Lawrence Cann expressed confidence that the venue will aid Altadena’s healing process.
Designed to serve approximately 1,000 young people during its first year, the center offers a continuum of services that extend beyond the pitches, providing mentorship, tutoring and life‑skills workshops aimed at fostering long‑term resilience.
A Hub for Community Resilience
The Archdiocese of Los Angeles and St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish collaborated with Street Soccer USA to embed the project within the local fabric, reinforcing a broader effort to reinvest in Altadena’s future. By situating the facility near neighborhoods most affected by the fire, the partners ensure that the benefits reach those who need them most.
