A coaching shuffle at the top
Drew Williamson, who spent the past two seasons as Michigan’s director of player development and also served as an assistant coach, announced his exit from the program in a move that aligns him with Dusty May’s staff with the Dallas Mavericks. A social‑media video captured Williamson in Mavericks apparel during pre‑game warmups, confirming the transition.
The departure represents the third recent loss from the Wolverines’ championship‑winning coaching cadre, following the earlier exits of May and Justin Joyner. Williamson’s contract allowed him to terminate his employment with reasonable notice, a clause that facilitated his move.
At Michigan, Williamson was slated to earn a base salary of $347,500 for the current season. His five‑year association with May stretches back to their time together at Florida Atlantic before both joined the Michigan program.
Interim head coach Mike Boynton Jr. now faces the task of filling two open positions left by Williamson’s departure. While the university has explored potential replacements, including Mody Maor, no formal appointment has been made public.
