A generous gift reshapes Gonzaga's training facilities
Domantas Sabonis, a former Gonzaga standout, announced a substantial contribution that will fund the naming of the Sabonis Family Strength and Conditioning Center. The facility is designed to enhance training, recovery and overall development for current and future student‑athletes, reinforcing the university’s commitment to athletic excellence.
In a statement, Sabonis expressed gratitude to the university that shaped his career, noting that the center will serve as a lasting resource for Bulldogs striving to reach their full potential. He hopes the new space will ignite the same ambition that propelled him from Spokane to the NBA.
From college dominance to NBA stardom
Sabonis played for Gonzaga from 2014 to 2016, quickly establishing himself as one of the program’s most efficient big men. He remains the school’s all‑time leader in field‑goal percentage at 63.2% and ranks 11th in career rebounds with 694. His collegiate performance set the stage for a professional trajectory that has included three consecutive seasons leading the NBA in rebounds per game.
The NBA recognized his impact by rewarding him with a four‑year, $186 million extension, making him the highest‑paid Gonzaga alum in league history. His jersey was hung in the rafters at Gonzaga in January 2025, a testament to his enduring legacy within the program.
Beyond his on‑court achievements, Sabonis emphasized the importance of giving back to the community that supported him. The new center, he said, is more than a facility; it is a symbol of the university’s investment in the next generation of athletes who will carry forward the Bulldog spirit.
