2026 Season Overview
The SUNY Canton women's soccer program has released its full 2026 schedule, a 19‑match campaign that blends early‑season scrimmages with a demanding conference slate. The season opens with two practice matches on August 21 and 27 before the official start on September 1, when the team hosts SUNY Poly at home.
Head coach emphasizes the importance of building chemistry during the non‑conference period, noting that the early games will serve as a laboratory for new tactical ideas. The schedule features nine home contests, including a September 4 showdown with VTSU Johnson and a September 5 trip to Utica, while the bulk of the road games will test the team against a variety of SUNYAC opponents.
Eight of the 19 contests are slated against SUNYAC institutions, a conference that has seen its playoff format expand to include the top eight teams. The Bears hope to secure one of those coveted spots, a milestone that would mark their first appearance in the tournament. The top two seeds receive double byes and host semifinals on November 4, with the championship game set for November 7 at the highest remaining seed.
Road trips will take the squad to traditional rivals such as St. Lawrence, Cobleskill and Oneonta, as well as to newer foes like Keuka and VTSU Lyndon. A mid‑season home stretch includes matches against Norwich, Keystone, Delhi and a final slate of home games versus Clarkson, Plattsburgh, Oswego and Morrisville before the October road games at Cortland, Potsdam and Elmira.
Playoff Outlook
With the expanded playoff picture, the Bears are focusing on consistency. A strong finish in October could elevate them into the top eight, granting them a chance at the SUNYAC championship on November 7. The coaching staff believes that the blend of home‑field advantage and the experience gained from the early schedule will be decisive in their quest for the program's first tournament appearance.
