Austin Peay Launches “Beyond the Court” Mentorship Program for Young Men

In partnership with the Nashville Predators Foundation and Montgomery County Juvenile Court, the initiative offers life‑skill training, leadership development and a celebration of growth for fifteen participants.

Beyond the Court: A Summer of Growth

Austin Peay State University’s men’s basketball program is set to launch a four‑week summer initiative called Beyond the Court, a mentorship and life‑skills program designed for fifteen young men in the Clarksville community. The effort is made possible by a $6,000 Helper Grant from the Nashville Predators Foundation and a partnership with the Montgomery County Juvenile Court.

Developed by Dr. Kristal McGreggor, associate athletic director for student‑athlete success and strategic initiatives, the program emphasizes leadership, accountability, communication, emotional wellness and future planning. Over the course of the initiative, participants will engage in interactive experiences that connect personal development with athletic ambition.

Head coach Corey Gipson underscored the university’s commitment to mentorship, noting that serving these young men extends far beyond the basketball court. “Our goal is to empower them to recognize their potential in every aspect of life,” he said.

The program begins on July 9 and will conclude with a celebration on July 31, honoring each participant’s dedication and growth. Dr. McGreggor expressed gratitude to the Predators Foundation and other community partners for their invaluable support.
