Madeline Buckley Resigns as Macalester Women’s Soccer Coach, Olson‑Guillou Takes Interim Reins

After four successful seasons, Buckley moves to Vassar while interim coach Olson‑Guillou prepares the Scots for a 2026 debut

Madeline Buckley has stepped down as the head coach of the Macalester College women's soccer program, citing a desire to be closer to her family in New York and an opportunity to lead an institution that mirrors the liberal arts environment she cherished.

Buckley spent four seasons at Macalester, guiding the Scots to three winning campaigns and three appearances in the MIAC Playoffs, including a 6‑0‑1 finish to the regular season last fall that secured fifth place in the conference.

During her tenure she mentored four All‑MIAC selections and one All‑Region player, compiling an overall record of 32‑28‑12 with a conference mark of 18‑17‑9.

Interim Leadership

Marissa Olson‑Guillou, who joined the staff in 2023 as an assistant coach, has been appointed interim head coach for the upcoming season. She brings a playing pedigree from Augsburg University, where she was part of three MIAC title‑winning teams, and previous assistant roles at Saint Mary's University and UW‑Superior.

Olson‑Guillou has been involved in every facet of the program since her arrival and is eager to steer the squad toward its full potential as the team returns 29 players from the previous roster.

Season Opener

The Scots are set to begin the 2026 campaign on September 4 at the University of Chicago, a match that will test the early chemistry of a squad that looks to build on last year’s strong finish.

With a blend of experienced returnees and fresh talent, the program aims to continue its upward trajectory under Olson‑Guillou’s guidance while Buckley transitions to her new role at Vassar College.
