A New Chapter for Union Hockey
John Ronan has been named associate head coach of the Union College men’s hockey team for the 2026‑27 season, marking the culmination of a 13‑year journey that began as a volunteer assistant during the 2013‑14 national championship run.
Ronan’s impact is underscored by a 22‑12‑3 record in the 2025‑26 campaign, the program’s 11th 20‑plus win season, and a power‑play conversion rate of 23.3 percent that placed the unit 15th nationally.
The promotion follows his recent tenure as top assistant under head coach Josh Hauge, a partnership that has yielded 15 all‑conference selections, including four All‑Americans, and an average of more than 28 power‑play goals per season over the past nine years.
Hauge praised Ronan’s blend of coaching acumen, recruiting savvy, and mentorship, noting that the new role will allow the veteran to shape the program’s direction while continuing to develop talent.
Ronan’s first test will arrive on October 3, 2026, when the team opens its schedule against Army West Point, a matchup that promises to showcase the coach’s readiness for the next level.
Looking Forward
With a proven track record of turning around losing seasons and fostering offensive productivity, the coaching staff and players alike anticipate a continued upward trajectory for Union hockey under Ronan’s expanded leadership.
The upcoming season offers a fresh canvas for Ronan to imprint his philosophy on a roster that has already demonstrated resilience and depth, setting the stage for another competitive campaign.
