A Milestone on the Field
The first-ever Blue Water Soccer Senior All-Star Game unfolded on July 9 at Walt Braun Viking Stadium, drawing a crowd of eager fans and participants from across the region. High‑caliber players representing fourteen area high schools in the Blue Water Area took part in the showcase, which was divided into separate exhibitions for girls and boys.
In the girls' match, sweltering heat tested the athletes, yet the Blue Team emerged victorious by a 1‑0 margin. Katelyn Kaminski from St. Clair scored the lone goal, sealing a win that highlighted both skill and resilience under the summer sun.
The boys' contest faced a sudden downpour, but the Blue side rallied to secure a 3‑2 win. The decisive moment came when Chase Jones, also of St. Clair, struck the winning goal, capping a dramatic comeback in front of a rain‑soaked audience.
A Tradition in the Making
Coaches Pat Egan and Scott Parker, alongside organizers Cliff Freeland and Jonny Torres, orchestrated the day’s activities, ensuring a smooth flow despite the challenging weather. Their coordination allowed the event to run seamlessly, earning praise from participants and onlookers alike.
Beyond the scorelines, players and coaches highlighted the camaraderie and high level of play, describing the experience as a memorable bridge to the next chapter of their soccer journeys. The positive feedback underscored the value of such a platform for emerging talent.
Looking ahead, the organizers have announced plans to institutionalize the all‑star format, promising an annual tradition that will continue to spotlight emerging talent from the region. This commitment signals a lasting impact on the local soccer community.
