Ohio State is set to headline a new outdoor basketball exhibition that will bring together four of the state’s top Division I programs in a single, cause‑driven showcase.
The CareSource Invitational, scheduled for the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio, pits the Buckeyes against Cincinnati in a game that forms part of a larger four‑team format designed to draw attention to mental‑health awareness and suicide prevention among young people.
All proceeds from ticket sales will be directed to Jay’s Light, the nonprofit that has already benefited from more than $500,000 raised by previous iterations of the event, underscoring the tournament’s growing impact on the state’s mental‑health landscape.
The venue itself reflects a massive investment: the 40‑acre complex underwent a $260 million renovation to transform it into a year‑round hub for sports and entertainment, a makeover that has turned the tennis center into a versatile stage for events like this one.
A uniquely Ohio experience
Head coach Jake Diebler, who took the helm in 2024, expressed that the gathering is about more than basketball, describing it as an opportunity to create a unique atmosphere for fans while advancing a cause that matters to the community.
The other participants — Xavier and Dayton — join Cincinnati in a lineup that promises varied matchups, with the possibility of inclement weather shifting games to the UD Arena in Dayton. Ticket sales will be available, though the event will not be televised, adding an intimate, in‑person feel for attendees.
Beyond the headline matchup, the Buckeyes hope to schedule at least one home live exhibition and a private game later in the season, though those details remain under negotiation.
The event also marks a reunion with familiar rivals; Ohio State last faced Cincinnati in an exhibition on Oct. 18, 2024, where the Bearcats secured an 80‑62 victory, and the two programs have not met in the regular season since a 2023 Maui Invitational win for the Buckeyes.
