Jeff Konya, the Director of Athletics at San José State, has recently been elected to lead the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee for the 2027‑28 season, while also serving as vice chair for the 2026‑27 term.
The appointment extends through August 31, 2028, cementing his role as the primary representative of the Mountain West Conference on a national stage.
Leadership in the Spotlight
The 12‑member committee oversees the selection, seeding and bracketing of the Division I women’s basketball championship field, a responsibility that places Konya at the heart of the sport’s most visible tournament.
Konya’s involvement is not new; he previously sat on the committee during the 2017‑18 season while heading the athletic department at Oakland University, and he has served on panels for Division I men’s soccer, Division II women’s tennis and Division I women’s gymnastics.
His leadership track record includes two NACDA Director of the Year awards, reflecting a career marked by consistent excellence in collegiate athletics administration.
Beyond the committee, Konya’s professional journey spans senior roles at California State University, Bakersfield, Southern Methodist University, Iowa, South Dakota, Bucknell, UT San Antonio and Memphis, giving him a broad perspective on collegiate sports operations.
The recent Mercury News reader poll that crowned SJSU the “Best College Sports Team in Silicon Valley” for three straight years underscores the growing prominence of the program under his guidance.
He will work alongside a roster of national collegiate leaders, including Liz Darger, Kristen Brown, Vicky Chun, Sara Elcano, Annie Fiorvanti, Josh Heird, Candice Storey Lee, Marvin Lewis, Sherika Montgomery, Jill Redmond and Ashleigh Simmons, each bringing expertise from across the Division I landscape.
