Two high school students at Downingtown East High School were caught drinking alcohol while overseeing a youth football camp, a breach that triggered immediate disciplinary measures.
Apology and Accountability
The incident occurred during the Blue & Gold camp, a week‑long program organized by the school’s football booster club from June 15 through June 19, with volunteers assisting the team’s coaching staff.
District officials stressed that trained district personnel were present throughout the camp to ensure camper safety and confirmed that the matter was addressed in accordance with district policy and the Student Code of Conduct.
Principal Paul Hurley and Athletic Director Corey Sigle sent a joint letter to parents, expressing shock and deep disappointment and apologizing for the delayed communication about the incident.
The students, who were underage and did not hold driver’s licenses, were removed from the camp and faced appropriate consequences, and they did not operate a vehicle while intoxicated.
Community members have voiced concern over the lapse in supervision, while the district pledged to review its volunteer oversight protocols to prevent future occurrences.
