Forward Ben Schoen, a Maumee, Ohio native, has officially agreed to terms with the Toledo Walleye for the 2026‑27 season, marking the start of his professional career. The move comes after a four‑year stint at Penn State University, where he honed his two‑way play and accumulated a reputation for physicality.
Schoen’s collegiate résumé includes 70 points, 113 penalty minutes and a +11 rating across 135 games for the Nittany Lions. In his senior season he posted 13 points, 31 penalty minutes and a +7 rating in 37 appearances, underscoring his continued growth.
College Years at Penn State
During his time in State College, Pennsylvania, Schoen became known for his ability to chip in offensively while embracing a gritty defensive role. His 70‑point total reflects a steady offensive output, while the 113 penalty minutes illustrate the physical brand of hockey he brings to the ice.
Before college, the forward spent three seasons in the United States Hockey League, splitting time between Youngstown and Tri‑City. In the USHL he recorded 78 points and 111 penalty minutes over 125 games, a blend of offensive production and toughness that caught the Walleye’s eye.
