John Ronan Ascends to Associate Head Coach
John Ronan, a veteran presence in Union’s hockey locker room, has been elevated to associate head coach for the 2026‑27 campaign, marking the next step in a career that has already reshaped the program’s trajectory.
Over the past thirteen seasons, Ronan has worn many hats — from volunteer assistant during the 2013‑14 national championship run, to interim head coach for the final stretch of the 2021‑22 season, and most recently as the top assistant under head coach Josh Hauge. His blend of strategic insight and player development has been credited with turning the team’s fortunes around.
Under Ronan’s guidance, the Garnet Chargers have posted a 22‑12‑3 record in the 2025‑26 season and captured a power‑play efficiency of 23.3 percent, the highest in program history. He has mentored fifteen all‑conference athletes and helped the team notch its first winning season in four years during 2023‑24, while the unit he oversees has averaged more than twenty‑eight power‑play goals per year over the last nine seasons.
The new role will debut on Saturday, October 3, 2026, when Union opens its schedule on the road against Army West Point. Fans and teammates alike anticipate that Ronan’s elevated leadership will carry the Garnet Chargers into a fresh chapter of competitiveness and community engagement.
Looking Ahead
As the roster prepares for the first puck drop, the coaching staff emphasizes continuity and ambition. Ronan’s vision blends tradition with innovation, aiming to sustain the program’s upward momentum while nurturing the next generation of leaders on and off the ice.
