The 52nd annual Gus Macker Basketball Tournament is set to return to downtown Flint on July 25 and 26, bringing with it a weekend of fast‑paced 3‑on‑3 competition that welcomes players of every age and skill level.
Extended Registration Deadline Encourages Wider Participation
Organizers have announced a last‑minute extension of the registration deadline, a move intended to attract additional teams and expand the tournament’s community reach.
The event, held at the Flat Lot in the heart of Flint, will feature brackets for youth, adult and senior divisions, ensuring that families and friends can compete together while supporting a good cause.
All proceeds from the games are directed to the Salvation Army Life Center’s youth programs, providing scholarships, mentorship and after‑school activities for local children.
Linnell Jones McKenney, the Life Center’s executive director, praised the tournament’s impact and urged interested participants to register before the new cutoff, emphasizing that every team adds to the collective effort to strengthen the community.
Beyond the competition, the weekend serves as a fundraiser and a celebration of Flint’s vibrant sports culture, drawing visitors from across Michigan and reinforcing the city’s reputation as a hub for grassroots athletics.
