Andrés Amón, a promising forward from Madrid, is set to make his mark on the international stage as Spain prepares for the FIBA U20 Eurobasket Tournament in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Having honed his game with Club Baloncesto Estudiantes, where he posted 10.9 points and 9.6 rebounds per game and helped the side secure promotion to the senior team, Amón arrives at Siena with a reputation for versatility and rebounding prowess.
Since June 16 he has been embedded in Spain’s U20 training camp, competing in the Dommengge di Cadore Tournament in Italy and the Utebo Tournament at home, where he logged 3.7 points and 5.7 rebounds across six preparatory matches.
He will join a 12‑player Spanish squad that includes fellow NCAA Division I athletes such as Bruno Alocen, Iker Garmendia and Raúl Villar, forming part of a roster that boasts three recent gold medals for the nation.
The Road Ahead for Spain’s Young Guns
The competition runs from July 11 to 19, with Spain placed in Group C alongside Belgium, Croatia and Greece. Opening games are scheduled for the early morning of July 11 against Belgium, followed by matches against Croatia on July 12 and Greece on July 13, all of which will be streamed live on FIBA’s YouTube channel.
Beyond the tournament, Amón will become one of seven fresh faces on the 2026‑27 Siena Men’s Basketball roster, joining the program as it looks to build on its recent successes.
