Celebrating Excellence
The News-Gazette recently unveiled its 2026 All-Area Baseball Team, spotlighting the standout performances that defined a remarkable season for local high school programs.
At the center of the celebration is Asher Pruemer of St. Joseph-Ogden, who was crowned Player of the Year after leading his squad to a perfect 11-0 record and a 1.12 ERA en route to a Class 2A state championship.
Pruemer’s dominance on the mound and at the plate has earned him a commitment to play college baseball at Kaskaskia College beginning in 2027, a move that promises to extend his competitive edge onto the next level.
Coach Josh Haley, who guided the Spartans to their first-ever state baseball title, was recognized as Coach of the Year. Under his leadership, the team combined disciplined pitching with a potent offense, culminating in a historic championship run.
The announcement was accompanied by a photoshoot that captured the entire All-Area roster, including teammates such as Will Haley, Kara Haley, Avery Haley, Luke Haley, Koyie Williams, Ryan Pipkins, Cruz Dubois, Tyler Henry, Brayden Henry, Traxton Roberts, Bryson Houchens, Trevor Ames, Logan Rosenthal, and Bradley Jones.
Beyond the individual accolades, the recognition underscores the depth of talent within the region’s baseball community and highlights the role of local institutions in nurturing athletic excellence.
Kaskaskia College, the future collegiate destination for Pruemer, continues to serve as a pivotal pathway for high school athletes seeking to advance their careers while contributing to the broader sports ecosystem.
