Missael "Missa" Lopez arrived in Yakima Valley at thirteen, carrying a soccer dream that would soon reshape his life.
Roots in Yakima Valley
The transition was anchored by his father, José, and his older brother, José Jr., whose own passion for the ball lit a fire in the young midfielder.
Rising Through the Ranks
At Highland High School he quickly became a three‑year starter at center midfield, earning the SCAC MVP award and leading his side to state titles with Central Washington Academy, experiences that sharpened his powerful shot through daily duels with his brother.
His collegiate breakout came at Walla Walla Community College, where he topped the team with eleven goals, catching the eye of Evergreen Premier League scouts and earning player‑of‑the‑week honors.
Global Adventures
A breakthrough in Egypt and a return to Mexico opened doors to professional contracts, while a free‑spending club founder, Begad Anwar, once offered him a world‑touring opportunity without a salary.
Scout interest led to stints in Abu Dhabi and back to Nido Aguila, where his defensive midfield discipline impressed Yakima United coach Adam Becker, who later secured a new one‑year deal and protected him in the league’s expansion draft.
Homecoming and Future
After a season that saw Yakima United capture the Washington Super Cup and the Evergreen Premier League title in 2023, Lopez returned to the club as a top attacker, later branching into coaching on Wagner’s staff and sharing his knowledge with the next generation of Scotties.
Off the pitch he now works for a friend’s Everett‑based pool‑remodeling business, yet his sights remain fixed on the pitch, with plans to keep playing and eventually mentor younger talent.
