The top ten features a mix of established names and rising innovators, with Alabama’s Kalen DeBoer positioned at No. 10, sharing the slot with Miami’s Mario Cristobal.
DeBoer, now in his third year at Alabama, brings a résumé that includes three NAIA championships and a 67‑3 run that showcased his ability to dominate at every level of the sport.
A Coach Under Fire
Former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy has publicly questioned the placement, asserting that DeBoer’s 86 % winning percentage and his history of winning national titles at multiple tiers merit a far higher ranking. He points out that several coaches listed ahead of DeBoer have weaker win‑loss records and have benefited from more talent‑laden programs.
McElroy also highlights that DeBoer has never posted a losing season, has posted a 14‑1 record at Washington before moving to Alabama, and remains undefeated against Dan Lanning, the coach ranked No. 5. The former quarterback notes that DeBoer’s 30‑9 record in one‑score games underscores his knack for out‑coaching opponents in tight contests.
