Malik Howard, a 2027 four‑star wide receiver from Oak Ridge, Tennessee, revealed his commitment to the University of Tennessee on Tuesday, bringing an end to a recruitment saga that had drawn interest from some of the nation’s most prestigious programs.
A Decision Built on Trust
Howard said the Volunteers’ coaching staff convinced him that they understood his game and his future, a factor that outweighed the allure of traditional powerhouses such as Notre Dame, Oregon and Alabama. He noted that Kentucky was the first school to offer him a scholarship on May 23, 2024, and Tennessee followed with its own offer on June 5, 2024, after he had received Power Four scholarships from roughly 30 other schools.
During his junior season he recorded 53 receptions for 778 yards and 11 touchdowns, helping Oak Ridge finish 9‑2 before falling to Maryville High School and Science Hill High School in Johnson City, Tennessee.
Championship Dreams
The recruit expressed excitement about concluding his high school career with a state title, noting that the team’s recent near‑miss has only sharpened their resolve heading into the next season.
With the recruiting chapter closed, Howard looks ahead to contributing immediately at Tennessee, eager to translate his high school success into collegiate impact and to help the Vols reclaim their place among the SEC’s elite.
