The Outer Banks baseball community erupted in celebration this weekend as the 15U All-Stars clinched the Tar Heel League District 7 championship in Elizabeth City, securing a spot in the state tournament for the second consecutive year.
A Historic Run to the State Stage
The victory marks a remarkable achievement for the team, which has now qualified for the North Carolina state tournament on two straight occasions. The district title was decided in a tightly contested final that showcased the depth of talent across the Outer Banks.
The state tournament is scheduled for July 23‑26 in Williamston, where the OBX squad will join seven other regional champions. The event draws scouts, college coaches and enthusiastic fans from across the state.
A Roster Built on Island Diversity
The championship roster reads like a map of the Outer Banks, featuring players from Hatteras Island, Ocracoke Island, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills and Manteo. Names such as Ryder Bennett, Barrett Eilert, Gavin Gillespie, Gunner Johnson, Dylan McAvoy, Duncan McClain, David Newell, Luke Newell, Tucker Salyers, Sawyer Shelton, Silas Shelton, Elijah Stowe and Mason Tillett illustrate the geographic spread that fuels the team’s chemistry.
Guiding the youngsters from the dugout are head coach Zane Gillespie along with assistants Brandon Powell and Travis Salyers. Their leadership has been credited with fostering both athletic development and community pride.
