Two brothers from Billings Central High School have announced their intentions to play football for the United States Military Academy, commonly known as West Point, in New York.
Gunnar Larsen, the younger of the duo, said the decision reflects more than a desire to continue his athletic career; it also represents a commitment to the academy’s rigorous academic program and the structured environment of military service.
He noted that he still has one season left with the Rams before he transitions to West Point, where he will begin his formal military training.
His older brother, Tyton Larsen, will first embark on a two‑year mission for the LDS Church in Mexico, after which he will enroll in the academy’s preparatory school before joining the football team.
A family’s dual commitment
The unusual arrangement means that, upon Tyton’s arrival, Gunnar could find himself in a command position over his sibling, a dynamic both brothers acknowledge as both challenging and intriguing.
Both athletes stress that their choices are not merely short‑term sporting goals but long‑term investments in education, leadership and personal development that will shape their futures for decades.
Gunnar added that the pathway could lead to a variety of outcomes, ranging from a career as an Army officer to roles in professional sports management, illustrating the breadth of possibilities opened by the academy’s network.
