James Branch, a three‑star safety from the 2027 class, announced his commitment to the Auburn Tigers on Tuesday, choosing the SEC program over offers from Maryland, Virginia Tech and Stanford.
A Strategic Commitment
His pledge marks the second addition to Auburn’s 2027 recruiting cohort in July and brings the total number of commitments to 26, positioning the class at No. 11 in the national rankings.
The connection between Auburn and Branch’s alma mater, St. Frances Academy, appears to have played a decisive role, a link that has already yielded six current Tigers who previously played for the Baltimore school.
Auburn has signed four prospects from St. Frances Academy since 2024, underscoring a pipeline that the coaching staff has cultivated over recent years.
Branch’s 0.8767 composite rating from 247Sports places him as the 19th‑best pledge in Auburn’s class and the No. 12 prospect from Maryland, as well as the No. 39 player at his position nationally.
The addition of Branch, alongside fellow pledges EDGE rushers James Pace and Rion Jackson and safety Knyair Crumb, bolsters a defensive recruiting haul that could reshape the Tigers’ backfield for the next several seasons.
