Marcus Council, a versatile All-Ohio athlete who earned third-team honors as a defensive back at Streetsboro High School, announced his move to East High School for his senior year. The transfer comes after a standout 2025 campaign in which he amassed 851 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns, while also contributing 14 receptions for 100 yards and a score. His defensive production included six interceptions, 36 tackles and a fumble recovery, helping the Streetsboro Dragons advance to the Division IV playoffs and win their opening postseason game.
Coach Marques Hayes, who has guided East High to six consecutive playoff appearances, praised Council’s dual-threat abilities. “Marcus brings a rare blend of speed, vision and instincts on both sides of the ball,” Hayes said. “He can change the momentum of a game with a single play, whether he’s covering a receiver or breaking a long run.”
East High’s recent history underscores the opportunity for Council to make an immediate impact. The Dragons posted a 10-3 record last season, capturing two playoff victories in Division III before falling in a regional semifinal. The program has reached the postseason each year under Hayes, a streak that began after a long drought and has become a point of pride for the school and its community.

With Council now part of the roster, the Dragons hope to extend their playoff run and perhaps push deeper into the state rankings. The addition of a player who excelled both offensively and defensively at a high level adds depth to a squad that already boasts a strong defensive scheme.
