A New Chapter for a Standout Defender
Marcus Council, who earned third‑team All‑Ohio honors as a defensive back at Streetsboro High School, will spend his senior season with East High School in Akron. The move comes after a standout 2025 campaign in which he helped the Rockets advance to the Division IV playoffs and contributed heavily on both sides of the ball.
At Streetsboro, Council was a defensive backbone, recording six interceptions, 36 tackles and a fumble recovery while also serving as a primary running back. He rushed for 851 yards and 13 touchdowns on 91 carries and added 14 receptions for 100 yards and a score, showcasing a rare blend of defensive skill and offensive explosiveness.
East High School enters the new season with momentum, having reached the OHSAA playoffs in each of the past six years under head coach Marques Hayes. The Dragons posted a 10‑3 record a year ago, winning two playoff games in Division III before falling to CVCA in a regional semifinal.
Coach Hayes praised Council’s versatility, noting that his ability to impact the game as a defender, rusher and receiver will add depth to the Dragons’ lineup. The coaching staff expects the senior to contribute immediately, both in pass coverage and as a weapon in the backfield.
