A Milestone in Racers History
The ceremony, held in December 2024, drew alumni, current players and coaches to celebrate a career that spanned from a freshman arrival in 2005 to a program‑defining legacy. Guffey became only the third player ever to receive a jersey retirement, a testament to the lasting imprint she left on Murray State.
During her tenure, Guffey amassed 1,877 points, placing her sixth on the all‑time scoring list, while also holding the program’s records for assists, games played, minutes logged and successful free throws. Her statistical dominance was underscored by a 37‑point outburst against Tennessee State during the 2007‑08 season and a single‑game free‑throw record of 18 makes in a road victory over Jacksonville State.
Trailblazing Achievements on the Court
The following year, she helped the Racers capture the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament, securing the program’s first NCAA Tournament berth. Partnering with teammate Ashley Hayes, Guffey contributed to the team’s inaugural OVC regular‑season championship, a milestone that propelled the program onto a national stage.
Legacy Beyond the Court
After completing her playing eligibility, Guffey returned to Murray State as an assistant coach in 2017, bringing her on‑court experience to the sidelines. Her contributions were recognized again in 2018 when she was inducted into the Murray State Athletics Hall of Fame, a honor that reflects both her playing excellence and her commitment to the university’s basketball tradition.
