OHSAA Announces 2025-26 Boys Basketball Division Placements

Continental stays in Division VII while several local teams shift categories

Division Alignments Unveiled

The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) has just published the placement of boys' basketball divisions for the upcoming season, setting the stage for a reshuffling of teams across the state. The announcement comes as schools await their assigned divisions based on enrollment figures and competitive considerations.

Continental will remain in Division VII, the seventh tier of competition, despite a modest increase in enrollment. The district's standing as the seventh lowest enrollment in the state underscores its continued placement in the lower tier.

Leipsic, however, is set to move up to Division VI after its enrollment reached 95 students, surpassing the Division VII upper limit of 92. This promotion reflects the association's effort to balance competitive equity across divisions.

Columbus Grove will stay in Division VI with a corrected enrollment count of 110, while Montpelier also climbs from Division VII to Division VI. In contrast, Wayne Trace and Ayersville will drop to Division VII, joining New Bremen, Gibsonburg and Marion Local, all of which are moving down to the seventh tier.

The Northwest District, which housed six Division VII districts last year, is expected to retain a similar structure. Officials noted that the district experienced a net loss of two schools in Division VII, but the overall number of districts is unlikely to change in the foreseeable future.

Fort Jennings, another notable program, sits at the 13th lowest enrollment statewide, further illustrating the varied size disparities among Ohio high schools. The placement decisions aim to ensure that schools compete in divisions that reflect both enrollment and competitive balance.
