Jeff Konya, the director of athletics at San José State University, has been chosen to chair the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee for the 2027‑28 season, a role that will also see him serve as vice chair during the 2026‑27 term.
The committee, composed of twelve members, oversees the selection, seeding and bracketing of the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship field, while also administering and promoting the tournament across the country.
Konya’s appointment was extended earlier this year, securing his leadership of the committee through August 31, 2028, and tying his representation of the Mountain West Conference on the national stage for the same period.
A distinguished track record
Beyond this latest responsibility, Konya has a long history of service on NCAA governance bodies, having previously sat on the Division I men’s soccer committee, the Division II women’s tennis committee and the Division I women’s gymnastics committee.
His expertise is further underscored by two recognitions as National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Director of the Year, a testament to his impact on collegiate sports administration.
His professional journey includes senior roles at institutions such as California State University, Bakersfield, Southern Methodist University, Iowa, South Dakota, Bucknell, the University of Texas at San Antonio, and the University of Memphis, where he has built programs that consistently compete at high levels.
The broader collegial community has also acknowledged his contributions; readers of the Mercury News recently voted San José State the "Best College Sports Team in Silicon Valley" for three consecutive years, reflecting the university’s growing athletic profile.
