Pleasantville Baseball rallies to advance, softball season ends

Late‑inning heroics secure a substate final berth while the softball team bows out after a weather‑delayed contest

A night of drama on the diamond

The Pleasantville baseball squad appeared headed for defeat early on, trailing 4‑1 in the bottom of the sixth inning against Grand View Christian. Yet a five‑run burst turned the tide, delivering a 6‑4 victory and a spot in the substate finals.

Starter Easton Cox worked 3 ⅔ innings, allowing three runs while striking out nine. Reliever Caylor Jones then shut down the opposition, pitching 2 ⅓ innings with just one run and four strikeouts. Braylon Bingham closed the game with a flawless seventh inning to earn the save.

The Trojans will now travel to Oskaloosa on Tuesday night to face Albia, a match that will determine their path to the state tournament.

On the softball side, Pleasantville’s campaign ended after a weather‑delayed semifinal against Cardinal. The game was suspended in the bottom of the fifth with the score tied 1‑0, and when play resumed the Comtes added a single run to secure a 2‑0 win.

Lainey Kennedy threw all seven innings for the softball team, yielding ten hits and two runs while recording two strikeouts. The offense produced just three hits, courtesy of Kally Wysong, Emerie Harsin and Grace Rood.
