Lagerald Vick, a former University of Kansas basketball standout, was taken into custody in Memphis earlier this month and now faces serious criminal accusations that include attempted first-degree murder and unlawful use of a firearm during a felony.
According to prosecutors, the alleged incident unfolded on July 4 during a gathering in Memphis, where Vick is said to have discharged a weapon, striking a victim in what authorities describe as an attempted murder.
The case is further complicated by earlier legal troubles; in April, Vick was arrested on charges of aggravated burglary, theft and vandalism after allegedly breaking into a former girlfriend’s home and stealing multiple electronic devices.
Vick’s collegiate career spanned 94 games from 2015 to 2019, during which he averaged 14.1 points and four rebounds per game in his senior season before stepping away from the program in February 2019 citing personal matters.
A 2015 Title IX review at the university concluded that Vick likely perpetrated domestic violence against a female student, recommending two years of probation, though no formal charges were ever filed.
Legal Outlook
Vick remains held on a $1.5 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 13 for an arraignment, a date that will likely set the tone for the legal battle ahead.
