The Arkansas Razorbacks announced a milestone on Tuesday, revealing that a program‑record 12 of its players were selected in the latest Major League Baseball draft. The final day of the draft saw seven current Razorbacks and three committed transfers hear their names called, underscoring the depth of talent on the 2026 roster.
Key prospects on the rise
Among the standouts, right‑hander Ethan McElvain was taken in the fifth round by the Kansas City Royals, who assigned him a suggested signing bonus of $476,900. McElvain finished his collegiate career with a 1.03 ERA, six saves and 52 strikeouts in 19 relief appearances. Outfielder Damian Ruiz, a redshirt junior, was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the ninth round with a $206,300 bonus slot. He batted .309 with five home runs, 13 doubles and 30 RBI last season.
The draft also featured a cascade of pitchers — Colin Fisher, Tate McGuire, Cooper Dossett, Parker Coil — and position players such as Wills Maginnis, Ben Cleary and Chris Diaz, all of whom were selected as committed players.
Bonus slot constraints
Players drafted in the 11th round or later cannot sign for more than $150,000 without the excess amount counting against the bonus pool, a rule that shaped the team's drafting strategy this year.
A legacy re‑written
Arkansas’ 12 draft picks eclipsed the previous program record of 11 set in 2013, 2018 and last year. Notably, the Razorbacks did not have any high school signees drafted for the first time since 2004, highlighting a shift toward college‑level talent. The ripple effect extended beyond the current class; three former Razorbacks — Michael Anderson, Jayson Jones and Sean Fitzpatrick — were also selected, illustrating the program’s sustained pipeline to the majors.
