The Iowa High School Athletic Association is set to host its substate baseball finals on July 14, marking the first step toward the state championships for both Class 1A and Class 2A.
Substate Finals Highlights
Games will be spread across a dozen venues in towns ranging from Sioux City to Marshalltown, with most contests slated to begin at 7 p.m., while the opening clash between Logan‑Magnolia and Remsen St. Mary’s will start two hours earlier at 5 p.m.
Among the marquee matchups, Logan‑Magnolia will meet Remsen St. Mary’s in a early‑evening showdown, while Le Mars Gehlen Catholic travels to Algona to face Mason City Newman Catholic. In Waverly, Don Bosco takes on South Winneshiek, and in Independence, Janesville squares off against North Linn. The slate also includes contests in Knoxville, Ottumwa, Boone, Clarion, Marshalltown, Oskaloosa, Sheldon, Manchester and West Liberty, each offering a chance for teams to advance toward the July 20 state tournament kickoff.
State Tournament Outlook
The state tournament itself will commence on July 20, featuring the champions and runners‑up from the substate round. In Class 1A, the reigning champion Saint Ansgar will meet Ankeny Christian at Mason City’s Roosevelt Field, while in Class 2A the defending title‑holder Pleasantville will host Albia in Oskaloosa. Additional high‑profile games include Ridge View versus Grundy Center in Boone, Roland‑Story against Pocahontas Area in Clarion, and Dyersville Beckman Catholic versus PCM in Marshalltown.
Beyond the on‑field action, the tournament schedule includes a doubleheader hosted by Sioux City East, where Underwood and Unity Christian will meet in the second game of the day. Other venues such as Stryten Energy Field in Manchester and West Liberty High School will also showcase competitive matchups.
