Bear Madliak, the senior catcher for Kansas State, has earned a spot among the 16 semifinalists for the 2026 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award, a honor that places him among the nation’s most promising backstops.
His season has been marked by a .311 batting average, 13 doubles, nine home runs, a .559 slugging percentage and a .413 on‑base rate, numbers that have helped him drive in 43 runs and score 41 more while appearing in 46 games with 40 starts behind the plate.
Madliak also holds the distinction of being the first catcher in K‑State history to receive National Catcher of the Week honors, a testament to his consistent production that includes a .533 performance in week seven with three doubles and three homers, and a team‑best 1.921 OPS.
The Wildcats will open the 2026 Big 12 Championships against Utah at Surprise Stadium in Surprise, Arizona, a venue that will test Madliak’s defensive acuity as the team looks to translate his offensive surge into postseason success.
