Lagerald Vick, a former Kansas Jayhawks basketball standout and native of Memphis, was taken into custody this week on serious criminal allegations that have shocked the local community.
According to police reports, the incident unfolded on the evening of July 4 near the intersection of Madewell Street and Dellwood Avenue, where a gathering escalated into an argument that quickly turned physical.
A Night That Turned Violent
Witnesses said the victim attempted to de‑escalate the confrontation by moving away, but the suspect, described as a man with a handgun concealed under his armpit, pursued him and fired a single shot that struck the victim in the right side of his back.
Emergency responders transported the injured man to Regional One Hospital via private vehicle, where he received treatment for a non‑life‑threatening wound. The victim later identified Vick as the shooter, a identification that investigators said was clear and unambiguous.
Following his arrest, Vick has been held on a $1,500,000 bond as authorities build their case ahead of a preliminary hearing. The charges include attempted first‑degree murder and the unlawful employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
