Kingston Goaltender Garners Top Honor
Gavin Betts, the Kingston Frontenacs’ net‑minder, has been named the recipient of the Dayna Brons Honorary Award, a distinction that celebrates individuals in Canada’s hockey community who champion the cause of patients dependent on blood and stem‑cell products.
The accolade underscores Betts’ dual role as a player and a Hockey Gives Blood ambassador, a platform he has leveraged to amplify awareness about donation across the country.
Kory Cooper, general manager of the Frontenacs, praised Betts’ character, leadership and unwavering commitment to helping others, noting that his influence extends far beyond the rink.
Braden Hache, who earned the same award in 2021, paved the way for Betts, making him only the second player in Frontenacs history to receive the honor.
Through his advocacy, Betts has helped shine a spotlight on the ongoing need for donors, encouraging fans and fellow athletes to consider how a single act of giving can alter the course of a patient’s life.
The award places Betts among a national cohort of hockey figures recognized by Canadian Blood Services and Hockey Gives Blood for their dedication to saving lives through donation.
