Former University of Kansas guard Lagerald Vick, 29, now sits behind a $1.5 million bail after being charged with attempted first‑degree murder in Tennessee.
The Memphis Police Department arrested Vick on Saturday in connection with a July 4 shooting that left a victim able to identify him in a photo lineup, according to court filings.
Prosecutors have also levied a separate count of using a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, underscoring the gravity of the alleged conduct.
Vick’s legal woes extend beyond the homicide charge; he is currently facing two felony counts alleging theft and unlawful entry into a former girlfriend’s residence earlier this year.
From college star to global journeyman
Although his college career at Kansas was marked by a modest 9.4‑point average over 117 appearances, Vick’s professional trajectory has taken him across continents, with stints in Taiwan, Colombia, Mexico, Venezuela, Uruguay and New Zealand from 2019 through 2024.
Off the court, the athlete’s early years at Kansas were shadowed by a Title IX investigation after he was accused of assaulting a female student; the inquiry was ultimately closed without formal charges.
