Greenfield Post 81 Secures State Tournament Berth
Greenfield Post 81, the Western Massachusetts senior baseball powerhouse, posted an 11‑3 victory over Monson Post 241 on Tuesday night, a win that guarantees the team a place in the upcoming Massachusetts Senior State Baseball Tournament.
The triumph caps a flawless Western Mass. campaign in which Greenfield finished the regular season with a record of 17‑0‑2, a testament to the squad’s depth and cohesion.
Coach Alex Siano, who has guided the club for several seasons, praised the team’s unity, noting that the chemistry between players is as important as raw talent. “We’re not just a collection of individuals; we’re a unit that trusts each other on every play,” he said.
Among the standout performers, Ethan Mauthe delivered a clutch RBI double and later added a two‑run triple that swung momentum in Greenfield’s favor. Conner Bergeron followed with a two‑run single in the bottom of the second inning, while Nicholas Prasol’s RBI single extended the lead to 9‑1 at the end of that frame.
The offensive outburst was supported by a versatile pitching staff. Greenfield employed five different arms — Arthur Fitzpatrick, Evan Tsipenyuk, Bodie Burke, Conner Bergeron and Sam Connors — to keep Monson off balance, a strategy that proved effective throughout the game.
