A crowd of Syracuse basketball legends, current roster members and enthusiastic fans converged on Vinney Lobdell’s sprawling estate in Skaneateles, New York, for the second iteration of the Summer Slam NIL fundraiser. The evening blended nostalgia with anticipation, as alumni from the famed 2003 national championship squad mingled with the next generation of Orange talent.
Honoring a Championship Legacy
The gathering paid tribute to the 2003 title‑winning team, with Hall of Fame coach Jim Boeheim among the distinguished guests. Their presence underscored the deep roots that continue to shape the program’s identity.
First‑year head coach Gerry McNamara took the opportunity to commend the event’s meticulous organization and the sheer scale of community involvement. He highlighted how the robust support from Syracuse residents distinguishes the program on a national stage.
Among the newcomers, Gavin Doty, a Fulton native who transferred to Syracuse alongside McNamara from Siena, introduced himself to the assembled fans. Doty expressed heartfelt gratitude for the chance to wear the Orange and to connect directly with the fan base that fuels the team’s energy.
This year’s fundraiser notably excluded media coverage, a departure from the previous edition that allowed the evening to remain an intimate celebration of the program’s heritage.
