A Rivalry Rewritten
The Illinois Fighting Illini and the Indiana Hoosiers have long been locked in a fierce Big Ten rivalry, but in recent decades the Illini have turned many of those contests into decisive victories.
A landmark moment arrived on February 22, 2000, when Illinois erupted for an 87‑63 win in Champaign. Cory Bradford led the scoring with 26 points, and the supporting cast of Trent Meacham, Brian Cook and others helped seal the triumph.
Four years later, on January 15, 2003, the Illini posted an 80‑54 victory in Urbana. Roger Powell contributed 22 points, while Dee Brown added 16, showcasing a balanced offensive attack.
The 2009 meeting produced a 76‑45 blowout, with Trent Meacham delivering 21 points and the team’s defense holding Indiana to just 45.
In the 2011 clash, Demetri McCamey’s 22‑point performance anchored a 71‑59 win, highlighting his playmaking and scoring ability.
A 74‑57 win on February 5, 2022 featured Trent Frazier’s 23 points, while Kofi Cockburn’s defensive presence, Alfonso Plummer’s shooting, and Keaton Wagler’s rebounding added depth to the effort.
January 2025 saw a 94‑69 triumph, where Kylan Boswell scored 22 points and Kasparas Jakucionis contributed 21, underscoring the Illini’s continued dominance.
On February 15, 2026, Illinois closed a 71‑51 victory, with David Mirkovic pouring in 25 points. The win also benefited from Frank Williams’ leadership, Sergio McClain’s energy, Dominique Keller’s defense and Mike Davis’ hustle.
Across the span, Illinois has repeatedly outscored Indiana by double‑digit margins, a pattern that reflects both recruiting advantages and tactical adjustments. The roster that has enabled this run includes Tomislav Ivisic, whose hustle, along with contributions from all listed teammates, has cemented the Illini’s reputation as a powerhouse in the conference.
