Blake Nixon Jr., a 6‑foot‑3 guard hailing from Minneapolis, has officially joined the University of Minnesota men's basketball program. Standing tall and athletic, Nixon arrives after a distinguished high‑school career that combined on‑court excellence with academic distinction.
A Promising Prospect
During his junior year he earned all‑conference honors while averaging 19.8 points, shooting 43 percent from the field and an astonishing 91 percent from the free‑throw line. He tallied 535 points, grabbed 3.2 rebounds and dished out 3.8 assists per game, and helped his team to a 12‑game stretch that included his 1,000th career point. In his senior season he maintained strong efficiency, scoring 16.9 points per game, shooting 44 percent from the field and 37 percent from three‑point range, while also contributing 3.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists.
Beyond statistics, Nixon was recognized with the Holy Angels Scholar of Distinction for academic excellence, underscoring his commitment to both scholarship and sport. He also played for the Holy Angels school team and the Hoops Habits Elite AAU program, experiences that sharpened his competitive edge and prepared him for the rigors of Division I basketball.
Summer Preparations
This June, Nixon will take part in the Golden Gophers' summer workouts, a crucial stepping stone as he adapts to collegiate pace and strategy. Under the guidance of head coach Niko Medved, he hopes to translate his high school success into immediate impact for Minnesota, aiming to contribute from day one while continuing to excel academically.
