Former Utah Utes safety Eric Weddle will be celebrated as the 2026 inductee into the Utah Football Ring of Honor, a testament to a career that has left an indelible mark on college and professional football.
Weddle’s collegiate years in Salt Lake City showcased a blend of ball‑hunting instincts and hard‑hitting play. From 2003 to 2006 he amassed 18 interceptions, ranking second in school history, and forced nine fumbles, a record that still stands. His defensive prowess earned him Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year honors in consecutive seasons and a spot on the All‑American team.
After leaving Utah, Weddle embarked on a 14‑year NFL journey that included stints with the San Diego Chargers, the Baltimore Ravens and the Los Angeles Rams. The veteran safety was selected to the Pro Bowl six times and capped his playing days with a Super Bowl championship in 2022, when the Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals.
Now serving as the head coach of Rancho Bernardo High in Poway, California, Weddle continues to shape the next generation of players, instilling the same discipline and work ethic that defined his own rise.
A Game‑Day Celebration
The ceremony will unfold on September 12 when the Utes host Arkansas at Rice‑Eller Football Stadium in Salt Lake City. Fans can expect a halftime tribute that weaves together highlights from Weddle’s college exploits, his NFL milestones and his recent coaching achievements.
University officials say the induction underscores the program’s commitment to honoring those who have elevated the brand of Utah football on a national stage. The event also serves as a reminder of the pathways that former student‑athletes can take, from the locker room to the sidelines.
