A Fresh Commitment for the Tar Heels
UNC basketball has extended a scholarship offer to DeMarcus Henry, a 2027 five-star forward who currently ranks among the top fifteen prospects in the nation. The announcement came after a recent evaluation period in Memphis, where head coach Michael Malone and assistant Sean May were on the ground watching prospects and decided to make the offer official.
Henry arrives with an impressive résumé: he holds a four-star rating from Rivals and five-star designations from 247Sports and ESPN, and his list of suitors reads like a who’s who of college basketball, including Kentucky, Ohio State, USC, Arizona State, LSU, Texas A&M, Louisville, Oklahoma State and Oregon.
A Family Legacy Meets Basketball Ambition
The Henry family’s football pedigree adds a distinctive backdrop to his recruitment story. His late father, Chris Henry, spent five seasons as a defensive back with the Cincinnati Bengals, while his older brother, Chris Henry Jr., is set to join the Ohio State Buckeyes on the gridiron this fall.
Malone, still learning the nuances of the EYBL and the Adidas 3SSB circuit, partnered with veteran recruiter Pat Sullivan to seal the deal. May, who previously served as an assistant under Hubert Davis, brings a deep understanding of the Tar Heels’ system to the table, while the program’s rich history at the North Carolina Tar Heels continues to attract elite talent.
The commitment underscores UNC’s ability to blend tradition with fresh talent, positioning the program for a competitive future both on the hardwood and in the broader recruiting landscape.
