A New Era of Collaboration
Coach Casey Alexander gathered the group of returning and new faces for a summer press session, emphasizing that the foundation of the upcoming 2026‑27 campaign will be built on cultural cohesion and collective effort.
The roster reflects a significant turnover, with only one player — Andrej Kostic — returning from the previous year, while ten newcomers, among them Brandon Rechsteiner, JT Rock and Jaden Schutt, have joined the program.
The non‑conference slate promises a heavy home presence, featuring nine contests at Bramlage Coliseum, highlighted by the Wildcat Classic against Wichita State and a trip to the Players Era 16 tournament in Las Vegas.
In addition to the home games, the Wildcats will host traditional powerhouses such as Arizona, Houston, Kansas, TCU and Texas Tech, each of which brings a NCAA Tournament pedigree to the schedule.
Individual motivations have been a focal point; Jaden Schutt cited Coach Alexander’s background and the team’s style of play as decisive factors, while Brandon Rechsteiner and Jaden share a familiar bond from their Virginia Tech days.
Andrej Kostic has spoken about his push to become a more inclusive teammate, noting increased comfort within the group, whereas JT Rock highlighted the proximity to his home state as a key consideration.
Defensively, the staff is experimenting with zone concepts and other schemes aimed at disrupting opposing offenses, a strategy that aligns with the broader goal of keeping the competition guessing.
