State Tournament Recap
Charleston Central Little League posted an 8-4 victory over Logan Little League in the West Virginia 10-12-year-old baseball state tournament, a result that propels the squad into the losers' final against Mineral County. The win was highlighted by a strong offensive showing from Ty Testman, who contributed two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Reliever Sawyer Lewis earned the win on the mound, logging 2 1/3 innings in which he struck out six batters while walking only two. His effort helped stabilize the game after a tight early stretch that saw Logan's starter, Colton Mullins, trade pitches with Lewis through the first two innings.
The tournament picture extends beyond this single matchup. With six teams still in contention for the spot that will represent West Virginia at the Little League Southeast Region in Warner Robbins, Georgia, the stakes are high. The winner of the losers' final will meet Shady Spring in the state semifinal on Thursday afternoon, setting the stage for a potential championship clash on Friday.
Other bracket action saw Jefferson defeat Huntington 9-3 in the Mountaineer bracket, a result that positions Jefferson to face St. Albans next. The two winners from that series will eventually square off in Friday's state championship, the timing of which is still to be determined.
Logan's early rally was sparked by Chandler Grimmett's first hit, which fueled a two-run surge that trimmed Charleston Central's lead to 3-1. Despite a late push by Logan, who scored twice in the bottom of the sixth, the deficit proved insurmountable. The tournament now moves forward with the remaining teams — Charleston Central, Mineral County, Shady Spring, Bridgeport, Jefferson and St. Albans — each vying for the coveted regional berth.
