A New Era for Topsail Football
TJ Albert, a 50‑year‑old New York native, has been hired to rebuild the Topsail football program after a long stretch of instability that left the Pirates with just eight wins in the past three seasons and a winless campaign the previous fall.
Albert arrives with a three‑decade coaching résumé, most recently spending fifteen years constructing the football program at Community School of Davidson. There, he cultivated a culture of discipline and hard work, traits that have become his trademark on the sidelines.
The lack of recent success at Topsail was, paradoxically, a draw for Albert. He sees the program’s modest achievements in other sports — softball, baseball and volleyball — as evidence of a broader athletic talent that can be channeled into a competitive football team.
Albert’s family ties to the area add a personal dimension to his mission. He is the father of three sons, two of whom will don Pirates jerseys this coming season, underscoring his commitment to the community he now calls home.
Known for his thick New York accent and no‑nonsense demeanor, Albert has set lofty objectives: win the conference and advance quickly through the playoffs. He believes the existing talent pool, combined with his structured approach, can elevate Topsail to one of the premier programs in eastern North Carolina.
