Preseason Honors Highlight Barnes’s Rise
Elon University’s placekicker Luke Barnes has been thrust into the preseason spotlight after being selected to the first‑team FCS Football Central All‑American squad, a distinction that underscores his rapid ascent in collegiate football.
During his sophomore campaign Barnes converted 14 of 15 field‑goal attempts from inside 50 yards and was flawless on 40 extra‑point tries, a combination that placed him among the most reliable specialists in the nation.
His performance earned him Associated Press honorable‑mention All‑America recognition and a second‑team nod from Stats Perform, while the Coastal Athletic Association named him to its preseason all‑conference team.
The honor marks the second consecutive year that Elon has placed a kicker on the first‑team FCS Football Central Preseason All‑American list, reflecting the program’s growing reputation on the national stage.
Coach Jeff Yurk, who oversees the kicking unit, praised Barnes’s work ethic and consistency, noting that the accolades reflect both individual excellence and the team’s developmental progress.
Looking ahead, Barnes says he is focused on maintaining his precision and helping Elon contend for a conference title as the upcoming season approaches.
