The Washington and Lee University men's basketball program is set to embark on a ten‑day excursion to Italy, a trip organized by the school's alumni network and scheduled to run from August 6 through August 15. The itinerary blends competitive play with cultural exploration, offering the team a rare opportunity to test their skills against European clubs while immersing themselves in Italian heritage.
Departure is slated for the morning of August 6, after which the roster will land in Rome for the first leg of the tour. Over the next nine days the team will move through a series of historic cities, each stop featuring a distinct basketball engagement and a curated sightseeing experience.
Schedule of Games and Sightseeing
The first contest arrives on August 8, when the Generals will face Stella Azzurra Academy in Rome. Two days later, on August 10, the squad travels to Montecatini Terme for a matchup against Pro Camp, a club known for its youthful talent. The final competitive test comes on August 13 in Milan, where the team will meet the Dream Team All‑Stars, a select group of Italian prospects.
Beyond the hardwood, the itinerary includes a guided boat tour of Lake Como on August 14, providing a scenic finale before the group returns to the United States on August 15. Throughout the trip, the players will also explore Rome's ancient streets, Milan's fashion district and the thermal spas of Montecatini Terme, weaving athletic preparation with cultural discovery.
Leadership and Alumni Support
At the helm of this ambitious venture are captains Connor Amorosi and Conor Roberton, whose on‑court responsibilities will be complemented by the logistical backing of the W&L men's basketball alumni association. Their leadership is expected to foster team cohesion, while the alumni network ensures that travel, accommodations and match arrangements are seamlessly coordinated.
The trip’s broader objectives extend beyond wins and losses.
