Edgewood Baseball Team Extends Academic Excellence Streak
The American Baseball Coaches Association announced that the Edgewood University baseball program has been honored with its eleventh consecutive Team Academic Excellence award, underscoring a sustained commitment to scholarly achievement on the diamond.
During the 2025-26 academic year the Eagles posted a collective grade point average of 3.44, a figure that places the squad among the nation’s most academically successful collegiate teams.
What makes the accomplishment especially notable is that Edgewood is the sole member of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference to have captured the honor in every season since the award’s inception in 2016, a testament to the program’s consistent standards.
A Conferencewide Academic Surge
The recognition is not isolated to Edgewood; seven additional Northern Athletics schools also received the ABCA academic accolade for the 2025-26 season, highlighting a conferencewide emphasis on balancing athletic competition with classroom rigor.
Institutions such as Aurora University, Concordia University Chicago, Dominican University, Illinois Tech, Lakeland University, Rockford University and St. Norbert College joined Edgewood in earning the distinction, reflecting a broader culture of academic excellence within the league.
The repeated success of these programs illustrates how athletic departments can serve as models for integrating high performance in competition with high achievement in scholarship, a narrative that resonates beyond the playing fields.
University officials and coaches alike attribute the sustained academic standards to structured support systems, mentorship programs and a shared institutional ethos that values both athletic and intellectual growth.
