The University of Virginia and Old Dominion University have announced a two-year agreement to renew their in-state basketball rivalry, scheduling contests for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons.

The Cavaliers will open the series on November 15, 2026, by traveling to Norfolk to meet the Monarchs at the Ted Constant Center, and will later host Old Dominion at John Paul Jones Arena during the 2027-28 campaign.
The rivalry has been dormant since 2019, when Virginia secured an overtime victory at John Paul Jones Arena, extending its recent winning streak to two games and bringing the overall series record to 19-16 in favor of Old Dominion.
Head Coach Aaron Roussell expressed enthusiasm about the renewal, emphasizing the opportunity to reconnect with alumni throughout the 757 region and to celebrate a matchup that has been a staple of Virginia college basketball.
Historic Significance of John Paul Jones Arena
The arena, which opened in 2006, witnessed its first game with a Virginia win, and the upcoming 2027-28 contest will mark the third meeting at the venue, underscoring its role as a cultural touchstone for the rivalry.
